She Got Called Out For Ordering A $43 Steak At A Group Dinner Even Though She Covered Her Portion Of The Bill

This woman has known her best friend for over 20 years. But unfortunately, her best friend’s sister is married to a guy who she simply finds insufferable.
Apparently, nothing is ever good enough for her best friend’s sister or her husband. So, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she actually decided to just block them both on social media.
“Because they would see my posts, take them personally, and make a fuss,” she explained.
For instance, she once posted a meme that said, “Anyone who likes the color blue is a [jerk].” And it just so happened that her friend’s sister and brother-in-law liked the color blue.
This pushed them to actually call up her best friend and accuse her of badmouthing them online. Once her friend realized she had just put a generic post up on her account, though, her friend was pretty ticked off at her sister and brother-in-law for being dramatic.
Still, for the past few years, she has been trying to act like an adult and simply not get involved in any drama.
After all, she realizes that she can attend events with her friend’s sister and brother-in-law, but that doesn’t mean she is forced to interact with them.
Well, that was until just last week, when someone in her group had a birthday.
She ultimately went out with her best friend, her friend’s sister, her friend’s brother-in-law, her own husband, and five other people for a celebration dinner.

And being that they were a larger group, the dinner bill wound up totaling less than $400. But, once the tip was included, it came out to $475.
Regardless, she and her husband do not drink; meanwhile, all of the other guests had various alcoholic beverages.
That’s why she chose to splurge a bit on her main course– opting to get the steak since she had not gone out to eat in a while. Her whole entree cost $43.
“But no one’s meal was under $20,” she pointed out.
Anyway, when it came time to pay, her group decided not to split the check by person. So, she coughed up enough cash to cover her and her husband’s meal.
She handed over $130, to be exact, which should have covered her steak, her husband’s nachos– which cost $20– as well as their sodas and the tip.
After her best friend’s brother-in-law saw the bill, though, he took it upon himself to call her out for ordering a dish on the more expensive side.
In fact, the guy actually got up and loudly asked the whole table, “Who was the jerk to get the $43 steak?”
However, she did not hesitate to defend herself and asked why it mattered since she had obviously paid for the meal.
Still, her friend’s brother-in-law didn’t agree with that and claimed that she should have just ordered a meal that was more comparable to everyone else’s entrees.
“But the steak was the only thing I ate on the menu. The rest was covered in fancy cheese I do not eat,” she reasoned.
“And I paid for it.”
Nonetheless, her friend’s brother-in-law maintained his perspective that she was in the wrong. So now, she’s been left wondering whether she missed some sort-of social cue and acted like a jerk by ordering a more expensive meal than everyone else.
Does it matter what anyone orders during a group dinner as long as they pay their share? Why do you think her best friend’s brother-in-law took such an issue with her getting the steak? If you had been in her shoes, how would you have reacted to his remark?
