Having friends and family who live far away come into town to visit you can be really lovely. However, having them stay with you for their entire visit can make things very stressful.

One woman recently told her friends visiting her that they couldn’t stay in her apartment and had to spend money on a hotel on the day of their arrival.

She’s 25-years-old and has two friends, a couple named Ana and James, who moved to a different state when they all went to college and decided to stay there.

“We keep contact via texting and video calls, but we’ve never seen each other face-to-face since they moved,” she said.

“They decided to travel to the city I live in so we can spend time together.”

Her friends are supposed to stay in her city for two weeks, and they have a lot of things planned over that time. However, she had one condition for their visit. They couldn’t stay in her apartment.

Ana and James don’t have any friends or family in her area, so when they arrived in town, and she told them they’d have to get a room at a hotel that night, they were very confused.

She has always been particular about letting people stay with her in her small apartment. Because she doesn’t have a spare room, she hardly even allows her boyfriend or parents to stay over.

The only option Ana and James would have for staying at her apartment would be to sleep on a spare mattress she has on the floor of her living room or hobbies room. But she didn’t want to have to deal with all of that.

She’s also not a fan of having guests since she doesn’t like the idea of people in her home while she sleeps or isn’t there.

It makes her uncomfortable, and she gets worried that people will mess with her things without her permission.

She figured Ana and James knew how she was with letting guests stay over, so they’d book a hotel room in advance.

However, they never officially discussed Ana and James’ accommodations before they got into town.

“We hadn’t discussed where they would stay before they came here, and I assumed they knew they were going to stay at a hotel since they have never stayed at my home like that,” she said.

“And they know I don’t let anyone stay over like that.”

On top of it all, not only did she tell Ana and James that they couldn’t stay with her, but also that she would not be pitching in to pay for a hotel room.

They assumed she had gotten over her aversion to having guests, but they were wrong. James became furious and told her she was being ridiculous.

Although she was also annoyed, Ana tried diffusing the situation and said she’d be willing to pay for a hotel room, but James threatened to return home if they couldn’t stay at her apartment.

After getting into an argument with Ana and James on their first night, they didn’t do any of the activities they had planned on doing.

Ana and James went straight to a hotel, where Ana said she’d try to convince James to stay and keep the room. They both think she should change her mind, but she’s trying to hold her ground.

Should she feel bad and let her friends stay at her apartment, or should Ana and James keep their hotel room?
