You Can Still Rock A “Cold Girl Walk” During The Winter: Here’s How To Stay Safe, Warm, And Motivated Despite The Chill

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, and that’s when hot girl walks feel no longer delightful.
If you’re someone who loves a good, long walk as part of their daily workout, then you know how much of a struggle it can be to get that done during the wintertime when it’s cold, dark, and icy out.
The late fall and winter months are when we must embrace ‘cold girl walks,’ which take much more preparation than casual hot girl walks in the summer. Thankfully, TikTok user Margaret (@bad_art_everyday) has crafted an excellent guide for getting in your daily walks during the winter, all the while staying safe, warm, and motivated.
Margaret is posting all kinds of advice videos about getting through the ending of daylight savings on her TikTok page, but her ‘cold girl walk’ video has gone viral for her wonderful tips.
One of the best tips is for motivating yourself to get out of bed and go on your walk. If you want to squeeze your walk in during your morning routine, some winter mornings can be so cold that all you want to do is stay in bed. That’s understandable!
As Margaret points out, you’ll likely wake up in the morning to a drafty home or bedroom, and your bed will be the one comfy and warm spot available. Who would want to leave that? Therefore,
Margaret suggests bundling up with extra warm pajamas and a robe before trying to start your day or get ready for your walk to keep you out of bed.
“You have to make it so that it doesn’t have to be cold and dark out when you get up,” explains Margaret.
“With good robes and wool socks, it is much better.”

Next, Margaret goes over what kind of gear and clothes you need to wear on your walk based on the temperature outside. When the weather starts entering 35 degrees Fahrenheit territory, you should have a scarf, some gloves, and a puffy coat handy.
Then, of course, as it gets colder, you need to bundle more. You’ll need not only to start wearing all your winter accessories but also bump up the warmth in all your clothes by wearing fleece-lined leggings and sweatshirts to wear with your coat.
Margaret highly recommends buying a fleece-lined scarf to keep your neck and face extra warm.
Margaret points out that if you ever choose to walk in temperatures 20 degrees Fahrenheit or below, you should check weather channels to see if it’s safe to be outside and wear all your winter gear.
Additionally, in those conditions, you should be walking for shorter periods of time and only during the day.
In order to prep for your winter cold girl walks, Margaret suggests planning as much as you can in advance if you live in a city where the winter tends to go hard.
For instance, if you live somewhere that gets lots of snow and ice, buy your winter gear now before things start going out of stock!
Like any walk, whether it’s hot or cold outside, you need to make sure you’re hydrated throughout the whole journey. If it’s freezing out, you’ll probably want to avoid carrying a water bottle, so just be diligent about hydrating before and after your walk.
“[The] cold makes us unaware of our exertion and sweat levels,” says Margaret.
Don’t forget to try and enjoy the fun and beautiful parts of winter and seek out some pretty winter wonderland-esque sights while walking. Look for some pretty snowfall or birds flying in the brisk air.
Finally, have something really nice to come home to after your cold girl walk. Margaret recommends making your space as cozy as possible or having some hot cocoa or a warm treat on hand.
“These seem like small changes,” explains Margaret.
“But I promise, they’re huge.”
Hopefully, these tips will help you feel a bit more confident about going on your daily walks in the wintertime. Don’t forget to be careful and continue to slow down and take care of yourself during these darker, colder days.
Thanks for the guide, Margaret!
