Have you ever heard of a woman giving birth in her sleep? I haven’t until I came across Carolina’s (@carolina.moreno19 on TikTok) story, and she surprisingly brought her son into the world when she wasn’t even awake to meet him!

At the beginning of April, Carolina was pregnant and received a phone call to get induced. She was GBS positive, meaning she had Group B Strep, but was not sick or infected.

Because of that, though, Carolina had to be put on antibiotics to make sure she didn’t pass it on to her son when she delivered him.

Carolina arrived at the hospital to get induced, and her husband, sister, and cousin were there with her. The doctors did bloodwork, put in an IV, and gave her antibiotics.

Doctors broke her water several hours after she got the antibiotics, and Carolina was shocked when her contractions were coming on quickly.

She was very uneasy because of that, and her son was in an uncomfortable position. Carolina had given birth before, but never recalled it being so horrible, so she got an epidural.

“An hour goes by, and I still feel everything, so I kind of start to panic, and my nurse suggested I push the button that they give you, so I push that, I can still feel…I’m still in a lot of pain,” Carolina explained in her video.

She pressed the button a couple of times, was on laughing gas, and eventually felt much more at ease. Next, Carolina fell asleep at around 5 a.m.

“By the time we found him, it was almost 7, so she (the nurse) probably came in at 6:50 a.m. and she starts looking for him on the monitor, she’s kind of trying not to wake me, but she’s letting me know she’s there, and I’m not really paying attention, as she’s already been in a few times to adjust the monitor,” Carolina added.

The nurse kept on looking for her baby’s heartbeat, and Carolina was growing worried because the nurse was taking so long. Carolina was fully awake on her side and started asking the nurse if she wanted her to change how she was lying down.

Carolina turned on her back as the nurse said they would find her son. The nurse had her hands on Carolina’s stomach and mentioned it felt super strange.

That was because Carolina’s stomach was actually empty, but they didn’t know it at the time!

Carolina panicked, fearing the worst, and she told the nurse she felt something on the bed. She expected it to be her placenta, but Carolina never pictured it would be her baby. The nurse lifted up the blanket, revealing Carolina’s son face down in the rest of the bedding.

Carolina’s son was not crying, which was not a good sign, and he had been there for who knew how long, underneath her and a bunch of blankets.

Carolina doubted he was alive, and she started screaming as the nurse picked her son up. Carolina’s husband was in the room, sleeping, and was jolted awake.

Her husband had a smile on his face as he started recording on his phone, because Carolina had previously given him those instructions. Then, her husband realized Carolina was not alright, so he put the phone down.

“It was really scary. Even after she (the nurse) got him crying, I don’t think I even really processed that he was ok, for like…until basically we were discharged, and even after that, I was watching him like a hawk,” Carolina continued.

“I was so sure something bad was going to happen, I was just fully traumatized. And you know what? I was lying on my side. I think about this all the time. If I had been lying facing the other way, he would have fallen off the bed, because there was no room the other way.”

Carolina’s nurse was so kind and calm, although Carolina could tell by her eyes that she was full of fear. Her calmness helped the situation enormously.

Luckily, Carolina and her son are healthy, but wow, is this a birth story to remember!

These are the details to how I ended up sleeping through my sons birth. I know it sounds ideal but I’m still a bit sad I missed the moment he came into the world, I’m also sad we didn’t get to record it since my other two kids have their birth videos. I do think since he was sooo low and I already had so much pressure that when I fully dilated I probably didn’t feel much of a difference so it didn’t wake me up. Also I loved reading everyone else’s stories! So thank you for commenting your experiences? #laboranddelivery #birthstory #MomsofTikTok #momof3 #baby
