To help make sure everyone is aware of the dangers, more signs alerting beach-goers to coyotes will be put up around Harding’s Beach.
Reportedly, there are individuals that live close to the beach that have been feeding coyotes, and the Chatham Police Department is currently investigating this.
“There are several perspectives on this report. I’d be curious to know if the teens were actually on the beach or nestled by the dunes,” one person commented on the post from the Chatham Police Department.
“We live nearby & leave at dusk. Hanging there on a blanket, after dark, with food, is taking a risk. So glad that the teens are ok. Let’s all respect our wildlife & coexist!”
“We have coyotes on our street in the center of downtown Chatham,” another person added.
“They show up on my neighbor’s camera at night. I once saw one sitting on the lawn of the library in broad daylight, right by the sidewalk.”
“Also, last year, I was on the beach approaching Claflin Landing from the direction of CBI, and six very healthy coyotes came scampering onto the beach from the landing and headed south on the beach. They are everywhere in Chatham.”
