Her Friend Proposed To Her Completely Out Of The Blue So She Said No But He Won’t Accept That As An Answer

“Maybe this sounds like I “should know better” but keep in mind I’ve known this guy as a friend for many years and have spent time 1-1 without anything happening,” she explained.

“I say sure and we go up to my apartment and drink some water and then he says he wants to ask me something and gets on one knee and proposes to me (like had a ring and everything).”

“I say, I’m so overwhelmed this really isn’t what I’m looking for and basically he left shortly after.”

“Then instead of him taking that as an answer he continually half apologizes or keeps pushing me to consider it.”

She can’t believe he did not accept the fact that she declined his proposal, and since then, she’s pretty much avoided him.

She doesn’t understand how they even got to this point, because throughout their friendship, she never did anything to lead him on or make him think that she was into him romantically.

She’s now considering sending him the below note:

Dear [], It was very kind of you to propose. I value our connection and respect you.

I think we have very different comfort levels and understandings of what getting engaged means – I’d only be comfortable accepting a proposal from someone I am in a committed relationship with and am deeply in love.

You are totally entitled to your own perspective and I respect that but it doesn’t feel like we’re on the same page. Where I am right now, I’d prefer we just stay friends.

How would you feel?
