He Let His Girlfriend Think That They Were Moving In Together And His Roommate Was The One Who Told Her That Wasn’t Going To Happen: Now He’s Asking The Internet If He Should Have Broken The News To His Girlfriend Sooner

A guy has a girlfriend who currently lives in a dorm, but after she graduates in June with her degree in political science, she thought they were going to move in together.
His girlfriend has brought up moving in with him multiple times, but he never replied back to her since he figured he had 6 months to decide what to do.
He did think of moving out of where he does now and in with his girlfriend, but he does have a great situation that he would have to give up.
He lives in an enormous house that has 5 bedrooms, and it’s owned by his roommate Mindy’s grandparents.
The house has a library, a heated pool, and even an indoor conservatory. He knows he lucked out getting to live here, and he met Mindy when they were in college together.
Not that long ago, his girlfriend began creating issues with his roommates. She believes in zero waste, and she’s been coming over to their house and preaching about it to everyone.
Then she started taking things further.
“Recently my girlfriend has been making herself at home like it’s her place,” he explained. “She told Mindy, who likes to take baths in the evening, that it’s terrible for the environment.”
“She can hear Mindy, who has the rooms above mine, take a bath.”

Then, a few days ago, his girlfriend came to the house with a glass jar that had soap inside, and his girlfriend insisted that this was the only soap everyone in the house could use since soap in plastic jars isn’t good.
She also got everyone a compost bin for Christmas, and when she saw that nobody in the house had used it, she became angry.
“She told people in the kitchen, “things are going to change when I move in.” Mindy was like, what?”
“My girlfriend said when she moves in and June, she will make sure we are a zero-waste home. Mindy laughed and said, you are never moving in. Ever.”
“My girlfriend starts well my boyfriend lives here so I will be here. Mindy points out her grandparents left her in charge of the home, and she will decide who lives here and not.”
Mindy then confronted his girlfriend over the fact that she really does overstay her welcome, and Mindy mentioned she hasn’t said anything about it so far because he is a great roommate.
Mindy finished what she had to say to his girlfriend by letting her know that she will not stand for his girlfriend living in the house at all.
“My girlfriend yelled at me and said I thought you settled this? I want to live here,” he said. “I told her I thought we could get a studio and move in together, just us.”
“At the word studio, my girlfriend got even angrier and said she wanted someplace with a pool and a nice kitchen. She starts on a rant about how everyone is always destroying her dreams.”
His girlfriend started sobbing and then left to return to her dorm room.
“Mindy calls my girlfriend a gold digger, and I need to wise up,” he continued. “Mindy says I should not have let her think she could have moved here. It wasn’t going to happen.”
Here’s what the internet had to say.
“Your GF is pressed over dish soap but insists on a home with a pool? As in one of those manmade holes in the ground that uses tons of excess water for no other purpose than leisure, and requires a bunch of chemicals to keep natural things like algae from growing?”
“Oh, I get it… GF only wants to be an “environmentalist” for the joy of being smug and telling other people what to do. That makes more sense.”
“Mindy should not be responsible for handling this conflict with your GF. YOU should. Mindy’s grandparents own the house and have appointed her a property manager of sorts, so she doesn’t have to let anyone live there that she doesn’t like.”
“Clearly she doesn’t like your GF. GF is going to have to accept this, and if she puts up a fight then YOU are the one who needs to deal with it, not Mindy or anyone else who lives there.”
“I suspect your GF is the type that everyone hates but tolerates for your sake. You need to wise up and dump this woman or one day you’ll wake up and find yourself abandoned by everyone except this terrible woman that no one can stand.”
“Dump her. Keep the home with your friends. And moving forward, address things that need to be addressed. Don’t wait until other people have to handle the fight for you.”
“Dump your girlfriend and date Mindy. Sounds like Mindy is pretty cool and your girlfriend has more red flags than a circus tent.”
“Lol right, why would he not say sorry babe it’s not happening as soon as he decided it’s not happening.”
“Why wouldn’t he tell her he wants to get a studio before she made a fool of herself. Why would he let her come into someone else’s house and start marking demands? GF sucks but it should have been stopped a long time ago.”
“Your girlfriend also seems very pushy and unkind. But you knew that she had a notion of moving into your fancy place and also that it wouldn’t happen.”
“She shouldn’t have made assumptions, but it wasn’t an especially unreasonable assumption and you had many opportunities to correct her.”
“When you failed to counter her narrative of the future, YOU confirmed her assumptions. Sounds like you wanted to let Mindy be the bad guy. Shame on you.”
“Your girlfriend sounds an absolute nightmare! It’s fine having views, but not to preach or demand them of others.”
“And it’s definitely not fine to tell someone how to live in their own home, or try to move yourself in.”
“I’m with Mindy – dump this girl, she’s using you to try to get a fancy house to live in cheaply.”
