So, hundreds of community members began signing a Change.org petition asking for Patrick to become the next mayor.
The petition outlined Patrick’s contributions to numerous causes over his years as a therapy animal, mascot, and philantro-pony.
“He is the official mascot for The War Horse Memorial and helped raise thousands of pounds for equine charities,” the petition said.
“He is also the official mascot for Devon Recovery Learning Community, who are partners of the National Health Service, supporting many with mental health and recovery.”
Patrick has even visited patients at hospitals, recovery groups, and mental health institutions to be a furry friend to people in need of some comfort.
“We believe Patrick would be a brilliant Pony Mayor for Cockington for being non-judgemental and genuinely caring and supportive to all,” the petition concluded.
And since gaining so many signatures, many community members have already dubbed Patrick their “unofficial” mayor.
Local politicians, councilors, and Parliament members are also supporting the pony’s political agenda– attending networking events and Patrick’s inaugural ceremony.
