However, her mom jumped in and said there would be no need since “grandma” would be baking a cake instead.
She ended up going along with it but still worried that her mom would somehow “forget” again and not bring a cake.
So, two days before the party, she decided to buy a simple cake from her local grocery store just in case.
But, come the day of the party, her mom actually blew her away. Her mom showed up with a stunning cake from an expensive bakery, and she was over the moon.
“I was thrilled and set it up at the center of the table. I put the plain store-bought cake out too, for my son to use as his smash cake,” she recalled.
However, this might not have been the best idea– because as everyone was gathering to sing “happy birthday,” her mom asked her why there was another cake.
She honestly did not think twice and bluntly said that it was just a backup cake. And then, her mom completely freaked out.
“She started crying and yelling about how I am not letting her be a good Grandma and how I won’t forgive her for her past mistakes,” she said.
Then, her mom left early, and the party was understandably a bit awkward for a while. Nonetheless, her in-laws stayed and made sure her son had a great rest of his birthday.
Following the event, though, she did reach out to her sister-in-law to talk through the entire ordeal.
And during that conversation, her sister-in-law said they understood why she got the cake, but it was a bad decision to display it with the rest of the food after seeing her mom did bring a cake.
