She Ordered A Rare Steak At Her Birthday Dinner, And It Totally Grossed Her Dad Out So He Left The Restaurant While She Was Eating
This young woman recently celebrated her twenty-first birthday this past Saturday. And, of course, her parents wanted to keep up their yearly tradition of taking her out to dinner.
Every birthday, she gets the option to pick wherever they eat and can order anything she wants.
So, this particular year, she picked out a local chain restaurant in her town.
“It’s pretty nice but not over the top, and they had a cocktail on their menu that I was looking forward to trying as part of my ‘first drink,'” she recalled.
So, on her birthday, she arrived at the restaurant with her parents and brother. They sat down, ordered drinks, and everything appeared to be going great.
But, that was until it came time to order their meals. She opted to order a New York strip steak, and when the waitress asked her cook preference, she said “rare.”
Her father was apparently pretty shocked by this, though, because while the waitress asked what sides she wanted, her father actually interrupted them to ask, “Are you sure you want that?”
She reassured her dad that yes, she did want the steak rare, but then he kept going and made some uncomfortable comments about not liking blood.
It honestly made her feel pretty awkward, and she had no clue what to say. So, her dad actually had to remind her to finish ordering her sides so the rest of the table could order, too.

And after the waitress left the table, her dad asked one more time if she really wanted to “stick with the steak”– which, again, she found super weird.
But, the real kicker did not happen until the food actually arrived. While she was eating, her dad started making these disgusted faces.
Then, he literally got up from the dinner table after only taking a few bites of his own food to go smoke outside the restaurant.
“He wouldn’t come back in until mom had told him the waitress took my plate away, and once he sat back down, he acted as if nothing had happened,” she explained.
And honestly, his actions really upset her. By the time dessert came around, she was not even in the mood to eat it.
So, she gave it to her brother and just told everyone she was full.
Still, her dad did not get the hint, though– because, in the car, he continued ranting about how gross “bloody steaks” are and that he could not believe she went to college and started eating “stuff like that.”
Plus, he even started asking if she bites into eggs straight out of the fridge or eats her chicken and pork raw– all of which she found pretty rude and uncalled for.
After this, though, she started thinking back to the meals her dad would cook at home. And while he did not cook that often, whenever he did make steak, it was basically “cremated.”
“I thought it was just a preference as I have never had anything below medium well in front of him. But, apparently, it goes beyond that,” she said.
So, following the dinner, she decided to confide in her mom about the dinner. She explained how upset her dad’s behavior made her feel and asked what had gone wrong.
But, her mom kind of turned the blame around on her. In fact, her mom said she should have just “known better”– even though it was her birthday– and picked a different item on the menu after her dad made his first remark.
Still, though, she is totally confused about why her choosing steak was such an issue. So now, she is not sure if her dad was just acting childish or if she seriously should have picked a different birthday dinner meal.
Do you think she should feel guilty for ordering what she wanted on her birthday? Why do you think her dad was acting like that? How would you have reacted in this situation?
