In 1986, This 7-Month-Old Was Kidnapped From His Crib In Colorado, And His Family Believes That His Father’s Mistress Could Have Taken Him

In July of 1986, Christopher Abeyta of Colorado was just 7-months-old. He was born on November 28, 1985, and welcomed into a large family of six older brothers and sisters.

And unlike many infants, Christopher very rarely cried. Instead, he was known as a happy baby who just loved being held by his sisters.

But, on July 15, Christopher was tragically kidnapped from his crib in his parents’ bedroom between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

His family’s home was located in southwestern Colorado Springs on Ashwood Circle, and foul play was immediately suspected.

Unfortunately, though, no suspect in the kidnapping has ever been arrested, and Christopher has never been found.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Missing Persons and Cold Case Units have continued investigating the case.

Most recently, the CSPD tested DNA samples from three individuals whom they believed might have been Christopher. But, the results indicated that none of the people were a match.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has also aided in the circulation of age progression photos.

In 2018, they released a picture of what Christopher might look like at thirty-two years old based on family photos.

Now thirty-six years later, though, the Abeyta family has never gained closure, and Christopher might still be out there unknowing of his true identity.

Following Christopher’s disappearance, his parents, Bernice and Gil, created a website to raise awareness about their son’s case.

And later, a Facebook page was created in 2009 with the same mission. There, the Abeyta family described a person they believe is responsible for Christopher’s disappearance.

According to the Abeytas, a woman named Emma Bradshaw had been having an affair with Gil, Christopher’s father.

And the night that Christopher vanished from his crib was the first night that Gil spent the evening back at home with his family following a brief separation from Bernice– Christopher’s mother.

“She [Emma] was the last person to attempt to contact him just hours before Christopher was kidnapped. Emma Bradshaw missed work the day Christopher disappeared,” the Abeyta family continued.

They also detailed how Emma’s name was given to the CSPD. However, the family claims that she was not investigated as a person of interest.

So, the search for Christopher has continued– even though his parents will sadly never get to see him again. In 2017, Bernice died of cancer.

Then, in 2020, Gil passed away following a heart attack.

Still, the rest of the Abeyta family has not given up, and a one hundred thousand dollar reward is still available for anyone with information regarding Christopher’s kidnapping.

Christopher weighed seventeen pounds at the time of his disappearance and had blonde hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information regarding his case is encouraged to contact the Colorado Springs Police at (719) 444-7000 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1(800) 843-5678.
