She’s Breaking Down How To Make Your Own TikTok Filters So You Can Unleash Your Inner Artist

Alyssa demonstrated in her video how to create a makeup filter on TikTok. To do this, aside from Effect House, you are going to need a drawing app like Procreate.

“I use the app Procreate to draw and create all of my filters,” she said. “For making a face filter, you’re going to want to get this face asset.”

As she shows, having a “face asset” or a model image of the human face to use as a base for your filter is important so that it lines up perfectly with people’s faces when they use your filter on TikTok.

Don’t worry if you can’t draw makeup well; TikTok has an entire set of pre-designed makeup templates.

In their guide for how to make filters, TikTok lists certain “Technical Guides,” including how to “Make your first effect: Makeup,” which is where they attached a zip file for a “Makeup Effect.” Alyssa shows that this spot is where to look for the templates.

Once you have obtained the file, it’s time to head back to Procreate to begin drawing, Alyssa said.

“You’re going to want to create a canvas of 1000 x 1000 pixels,” she added. “Next, you want to get the face asset into Procreate, so click ‘Insert file.'”

Finally, it’s time to draw. When that’s done, export your drawing as a PNG, she explained.

For your effect to be used on TikTok, it must be uploaded through Effect House by clicking “Create Project,” Alyssa showed.

This is where it gets complicated. Within your new ‘project,’ you must drag the art that you made into the dropbox on your project page. Once this is complete, there are overlay steps that you must do:

“Add object, face effects, face mask,” she explained in sequential order of what buttons to click.
