Her Husband Kept Stealing All Of The Food She Bought For Her Pregnancy Cravings, So She Actually Purchased A Second Fridge And Put A Lock On It To Keep Him Out
This thirty-two-year-old woman has been married to her husband, Paul, for about two years. And now, they are exciting their very first child together.
She is currently ten weeks pregnant, and everything has been going well for the most part. Her largest pregnancy issues, though, have to do with fatigue and hunger cravings.
“No matter what I do, I cannot seem to stay full. I eat all day but have still managed to lose three pounds,” she revealed.
And honestly, she believes that a part of the problem ties back to how she and her husband do not always have what she is craving in their kitchen.
So, a few times a week, she makes an effort to stop at the store on her way home from work to stock up on all of her favorite snacks.
Some of these staple items include everything from pizza, popcorn, and pickles, to oranges, grapes, chicken noodle soup, and string cheese.
And she has been doing these weekly stock-ups since she was about five weeks pregnant.
Every time she completes a shopping trip and goes to check the fridge, though, she is instantly frustrated– because apparently, her husband eats up all of her snacks.
Now, she has repeatedly told Paul to stop eating all of her food– especially without asking. However, he claims that it really is not a big deal and that she could always go out to the store to get more.
“But that involves me– not him– stopping at the store more. And me, again, not him, spending more of my money,” she explained.
Still, she tried to give Paul some grace and lived with his food-stealing behavior for a while. Well, that was until last week when he totally pushed her over the edge one last time.
For context, she is currently pursuing her master’s degree. So, before she had to write a paper one night, she decided to go to the store to pick up her favorite ice cream flavor ever: Neapolitan.
Then, after returning home from the store, she popped the sweet treat in the freezer before going to take a nap.
Her plan was to rest for a bit, wake up, have a bowl of motivational ice cream, and then work on her assignment.
Lo and behold, as soon as she woke up and went to the freezer, she noticed that the ice cream had been cracked open.
However, she did not immediately freak out– because she knew that she would not eat an entire quart of ice cream all by herself.
Well, that was until she popped off the lid, peeked inside, and realized that her husband had eaten the entire strawberry panel– leaving her with just the vanilla and chocolate parts. And she was devastated because the strawberry was her favorite part.
So she then started to freak out and began yelling at her husband, Paul. For whatever reason, though, he just did not understand why she was all worked up.
Apparently, Paul claimed it was unreasonable of her to expect him not to eat food that she brought into their house.
However, she pointed out how that just wasn’t the case. Instead, she just wanted Paul to respect the items he knows are snacks specifically meant for her– such as her favorite flavor of ice cream.
Still, though, Paul never ended up apologizing or even offering to buy her some more ice cream. He actually just had the nerve to tell her to run out to the store again if she wanted more.
So, she stormed back upstairs to work on her paper because clearly, the message was not getting through to her husband.
Then, later that evening, she decided to just go online and order another full-sized fridge.
It cost about two thousand and three hundred dollars, but she bought it using only money from her personal savings account– which Paul has never contributed to.
And since she and her husband do not share accounts, Paul had no clue that she had purchased a whole other fridge until it arrived just a few days ago.
That afternoon, her husband returned home from work and saw the new appliance plugged in inside their garage.
The best part, though, is that she actually put locks on the fridge! And when Paul asked why the heck she did that, she told him they were to make sure he did not mess with her craving snacks anymore.
Her husband was pretty shocked at that point and tried to claim again that she could not control what he ate.
However, she reiterated that she was not trying to control what Paul ate– she was just trying to limit people from eating her own foods.
“The fridge in the house is open, and he can have whatever is in that and the cabinets, but the fridge in the garage is for me only,” she added.
And apparently, ever since deciding to invest in a new fridge, her problem has virtually disappeared. She did not have to go to the store at all this past weekend, and her food has remained safely untouched by everyone except her.
The only issue now, though, is that Paul has stopped talking to her for two reasons. First, he is angry that she made a large purchase without consulting him first– even though she used all of her own money. Second, he is upset that she has “turned food into war.”
So now, she has been left wondering if buying a separate fridge and putting a lock on it to keep Paul out was a reasonable solution to her problem or if it just made her a jerk.
If you kept buying food to fuel your pregnancy cravings, but your partner kept stealing it all, would you be frustrated, too? Why do you think Paul never offered to replace the items himself or at least reimburse her for them? Did she have a right to buy a fridge without asking him if she used her own money? If you had been in her shoes, how would you have handled this situation?
