Her Sister, Brother-In-Law, And Baby Nieces Are All About To Be Homeless But She’s Not Giving Them The $8,000 They Need To Keep Their House
A 29-year-old woman has a younger sister named Ivy, who is married to a man named Tom. She admits that Ivy and Tom are the least responsible adults she even knows, and they’re terrible with money.
“They will post daily online about buying annual Disney passes, going to concerts, eating at high-end restaurants, etc.,” she explained.
“Tom even owns an exotic sports car! Yet they’ll complain to our family about how they’re struggling with money, can’t afford this month’s rent, and need help.”
Well, she has done quite well for herself professionally, and so every time that Ivy and Tom need assistance or money, her entire family expects her to be the one to provide this to them.
When Ivy and Tom aren’t busy asking her for money, they’re busy expecting her to do them major favors.
Not so long ago, Ivy and Tom got themselves a puppy, and turned around and dumped the responsibilities on her. They pleaded with her to watch their puppy only for a quick hour, yet would leave the puppy with her for two days at a time.
They also expected her to foot the bill every time the puppy went to the vet. After a couple of months of putting up with the puppy, she faked being allergic to the puppy, which forced Ivy and Tom to rehome the poor thing.
A puppy is an enormous responsibility, but then Ivy and Tom decided it was time to have a baby, even though the puppy was far too much for them to handle.
They asked her how she felt about them choosing to start a family, and she didn’t hold back. She told them the honest truth.
“I told them I wished nothing but the best and was happy to be an aunt,” she explained. “However, I was not going to be financing their child or being any more present than a normal aunt.”
“I would provide Christmas/birthday presents and be willing to babysit occasionally but I wasn’t going to be their personal daycare and bank (I worded this last part more gently to them). Ivy and Tom acted offended and said it wasn’t going to be like that.”
Ivy and Tom welcomed her nieces Samantha and Christine a year ago, and she has been able to maintain the boundaries she set with Ivy and Tom regarding how much she’s helping with the babies.
Although she’s stood firm, Ivy and Tom constantly push her for more.
“Ivy and Tom also haven’t stopped spending/going out,” she said. “They got a nanny and are more insistent with the family about needing money.”
“Anytime they ask, I say that they have stable jobs (Ivy even has the option to work from home but chooses not to) and that they’re just spending money on the wrong things.”
This all leads us to now; Ivy and Tom are pleading with her to give them $8,000 to use to pay for their nanny, as well as their rent, or they will be evicted from their home.
Her family is also putting pressure on her to fork over the money, but she’s not caving this time.
Her mom has a 3 bedroom house that she inherited from her grandpa, and 2 of those rooms are completely empty.
There’s plenty of space in her mom’s home for Ivy, Tom, and the girls, and her mom does not have a job, so her mom can easily watch the girls.
“But our family said that it would prevent Ivy and Tom from being independent and I can afford the loan,” she continued.
“Now if I post anything online, the family leaves comments about me not caring that Ivy and Tom will be homeless and how much better the money would be spent on my nieces.”
“They won’t be homeless, and I don’t see moving in with my mother as a big deal. I’ve blocked most family members, but now I’m unsure if I’m the oblivious/entitled one here and if I’m being selfish.”
Do you think she’s being selfish for not wanting to fund Ivy and Tom’s life anymore?
