This Bright Red Drink Is Named After Her, And She Quickly Became One Of Hollywood’s Most Famous Young Actresses

As an adult, Shirley aspired to pursue a career different from being a film star and turned to politics. She was a member of the Republican party and ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1967.

Although she did not win a seat, she eventually became a delegate for the United Nations General Assembly in 1969. 

From 1974 to 1976, Shirley served as U.S. ambassador to Ghana. The following year, she was the chief of protocol for U.S. President Gerald Ford and became a member of the U.S. Delegation on African Refugee Problems in 1981.

She also served as ambassador to Czechoslovakia from 1989 to 1992. Shirley was heavily involved in international diplomatic relations. Isn’t that impressive?

In 2014, Shirley passed away at her home in California at the age of 85 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

She’s received many awards for her successful entertainment and political career, including a Life Achievement Award from the American Center of Films for Children and Kennedy Center Honors.
