Many times, these ceremonies were performed by local sorcerers whom many people making the pilgrimage to Mecca would rely on.
Along with regular religious rituals, many of these magical rituals would be performed for people making the pilgrimage daily.
Although some of the objects were found damaged, researchers believe that certain ones may have been broken as part of the magical ceremonies.
Today, the Israel Antiquities Authority and Israel’s Ministry of Tourism are still working to preserve and collect more artifacts in the area and hopefully learn even more about the pilgrimage’s past.
