“The correct way to teach your kid about service dogs. Lady: hi buddy, can she pet your dog? I know it’s a service dog!” she shared.
This is the polite way to ask anyone if you can pet their animal companion. Ask permission and make sure you’re child doesn’t just walk up and pet some strange animal.
“Me: yeah, he’s working right now. Lady: he’s working right now, so you can’t pet him, okay? Me: you can look at him, though. Lady: you can look at him and see he’s working. See, he’s busy working, he’s taking care of her. So just in case something happens, he knows how to protect her,” she continued.
The second parent that was shown in this video was the ideal interaction with anyone with a support dog. I don’t know how they feel, but I can imagine the amount of stress they must have every time they leave their house.
The sheer amount of times that they probably have had to go through the first situation, ignorant or oblivious parents just letting their kids run up to a stranger.
@hayleeand.herdogs Really glad I caught both of these interactions on camera last night! There a great example of how I handle things and what not to do, and what to do around service dogs?? #servicedog #serviceanimal #fyp #foryou #dog #disabled
