Known As Gudrid The Far-Traveled, She Was A Viking Who’s Believed To Have Traveled From Greenland To North America Hundreds Of Years Before Christopher Columbus Ever Set Foot On The Continent

Gudrid, Thorfinn, and the rest of their people were only settled in North America for around three years, as harsh living conditions and negative relationships with Indigenous people forced them to leave for Europe.

Gudrid and her family lived in Norway and then settled on a farm in Iceland, where they lived happily.

During her later years, after Thorfinn died of old age and Snorri went off and got married, Gudrid decided to set out for Rome on her own.

Gudrid’s pilgrimage to Rome was done entirely by herself and on foot. After spending time in Rome, Gudrid returned to Iceland.

Scholars believe that Gudrid became a nun around this time and lived out her final days happily.

While no one knows for sure when Gudrid died, her legacy in sagas and stories lives on, as she was a remarkable traveler.
