When this 27-year-old man was younger, it was just him and his mother. His father left when he was about 3-years-old, and he never really heard from his dad again. He would just receive an occasional birthday card.

At the same time, his mother worked very hard to support him without his father. So, together, they were able to make ends meet.

“I never truly had resentment toward my father; rather, it was more as though he were an unfamiliar person,” he recalled.

Since then, he’s managed to become quite successful without the help of his dad. He attended college, launched a solid career in tech, and now, his finances are “decent.”

However, his father randomly reached out to him on social media recently and suddenly wanted to get back in touch with him.

“I’ll be honest; I was curious,” he said, “So I took a chance. We got together and went through the entire awkward catch-up thing. Nothing too serious, nothing too profound.”

But his dad wound up dropping a bomb on him not long afterward. He found out how, apparently, his dad is launching a new business, which is some sort of app and doesn’t have enough money.

His dad also admitted to “hearing through the grapevine”– in other words, his extended family– about how well he was doing in his career. That’s why his dad flat-out asked if he would invest a whopping $30,000 in the business.

He was understandably caught off guard by such a request, given the fact that they barely knew each other. Yet, his dad expected him to swoop in and grant this massive favor.
