Even with efforts to cut back on spending, rising prices of everything from housing, gas, and groceries are making it nearly impossible for people, particularly members of younger generations who are just getting started in the workforce, to fulfill their basic needs.

According to a 2023 survey conducted by the Bank of America, 53 percent of Gen Zers state that the higher cost of living is a barrier to achieving financial success.

TikToker Aimun Amatul (@aimun.like.praying) is expressing her frustration with how unaffordable life has become.

She is a marketing manager, but her salary is not sufficient when it comes to covering her expenses, which has forced her to find other ways to supplement her income.

“I just want everyone to know that I had to apply to a second serving job to work on the weekends because my full-time job that I work from Monday to Friday 40 hours a week does not pay the bills enough,” Aimun said in her video.

She added that she thought the whole purpose of working a full-time job was to earn enough money to pay the bills and live in relative comfort.

Instead, she is floundering to the point where she is being forced to take up another job just to make ends meet.

Compared to older generations, Gen Z faces unique challenges. For instance, recent research has found that college graduates earn 10 percent less than their parents do.

Combined with the fact that most college graduates have major student loan debt, it’s no wonder they’re in the gutter financially.
