Her Husband Wants Her Daughter To Quit Gymnastics, Since He Thinks It’s Inappropriate

This 28-year-old woman has a 34-year-old husband and a daughter who is 7 from a previous relationship.
She got married to her husband two years ago, and they have been together for eight years. Right now, she’s 22 weeks pregnant with another baby girl.
Ever since she got married, her daughter has been participating in gymnastics. She thought it would be great for her daughter to have a hobby, as well as something to keep her in good shape.
When she was little, she did figure skating, and she loved to have something to be passionate about.
She just wanted the same thing for her daughter, and her daughter not only adores gymnastics, but she’s talented at it as well.
This year marks the first time her daughter will be competing, and she’s thrilled to have the opportunity to do this.
“She is very excited about it, she loves the leotards, the makeup and the hair, the competition,” she explained.
“It is a lot of work and long days, but she does enjoy it. This was the first competition my husband had watched her in, as he was occupied with work during the other ones.”
Her daughter did so well that she won a medal for her age group. She and her daughter were elated with the results.

But her husband was a different story. The entire time they were at the competition, she could tell he wasn’t enthused.
After they got home and her daughter was tucked in for the night, she mentioned to her husband that she could tell he hadn’t been interested in her daughter’s competition.
“He said that he thinks what she is doing is inappropriate, and it is not a good reflection on our family,” she said.
“I asked what he thought was inappropriate, and he said that the leotards, the music, the makeup, the splits, ‘opening her legs’ in front of everyone, and the shaking of her bottom all seemed very [adult], and he didn’t approve of it.”
“And that he thinks that she should do figure skating like I did, or something like ballet as it is far more appropriate.”
To be fair, she personally thinks some of the other girls who participate in gymnastics can wear some leotards that aren’t appropriate.
But she always makes sure that her daughter is dressed in a way where her leotard covers up her whole body and doesn’t have cuts that are too high up her legs.
So, while you can say she does control what her daughter wears, she doesn’t pick out her routines or music, though those things are always in line with what all the other little girls are doing.
“I think she looks adorable, and not many men are watching her. Just the fathers of the other children,” she added. “She enjoys it, it helps keep her slim, and it’s good for her.”
Also, her daughter loves doing her hair and makeup, as it’s like playing dress up for her. She outlined all of these points to her husband, who responded that since he’s paying for gymnastics and finds it inappropriate, he can force her daughter to quit.
Her daughter would be crushed to have to stop, and she told her husband that. She doesn’t believe her daughter would like another hobby like figure skating, and she dislikes ballet entirely.
“He seems to think he knows what is best for her, but she loves gymnastics, and it’s good for her to have a hobby that she enjoys,” she continued.
She’s not sure how to get through to her husband. What advice do you have for her?
