Several years ago, this man won the lottery, and he’s unbelievably wealthy right now. The amount he won and his name is public information, but he worked extremely hard to keep his unexpected good fortune under wraps.

Mainly, his strategy paid off, and after he set up a trust for himself, he informed his family of his wealth.

He very generously agreed to help out his parents and three brothers financially in accordance with their needs.

His brother Chris and sister-in-law Alice have three children, so he kindly paid for the down payment on a home they were hoping to buy.

“As crazy as it sounds, I was more broke the first year of winning than the year before I won because I was helping my family out,” he explained.

“I had one rule for anyone who took money from me – don’t tell anyone about my money. Well, Chris and Alice did for clout, and that unleashed a lot of people bombarding me with money requests. These were friends of theirs, friends of friends of theirs, in-laws, etc.”

“Like my brother’s BIL asked me to pay for a wedding in St Lucia because his fiancĂ©e wanted one, and I met the guy twice in nine years. Though this happened in 2021, people still bother me constantly for money.”

He was so angry at Chris for running his mouth about his money that he cut him off entirely. The ripple effect of that was his entire family grew upset, and he became estranged from everyone.

He was sad about it, as he was super close with his nephews and was hoping to be able to spoil them all with his new winnings.

A week ago, one of his brothers sent him an email stating Chris has spent the last year incredibly ill and is currently bedridden, requiring special care.

Chris has some kind of an issue with his breathing, and that’s all he really knows. He replied to his brother that it was unfortunate to learn of the news, and his brother mentioned Chris and Alice were on the cusp of losing their home in light of Chris being unable to work.

Chris and Alice do have four children, ages 4 through 15, so if they do lose the house, they will be homeless along with all their kids.

His brother asked if he could help Chris and Alice pay all their bills so they could try to get ahead while keeping a roof over their heads.

He declined, and it’s not the amount of money he has a problem with; it’s the risk to his privacy.

“I have no idea if they will keep their mouths shut about my helping them,” he said. “I get painted as a “nice rich guy,” and then I have 10 people bothering me with their problems.”

“You help them once, they’ll keep on coming back. It’s very funny how people just happen to have financial emergencies when you’re helping others out. The other problem is that of my brother does pass, then I don’t want Alice getting a house that I paid 20% of.”

“She and I don’t get along, and she’s the one who put my business out there. She was so certain that I’d take care of them that she didn’t even bother to say, “Thanks for the down payment on our dream house!” How bad is their financial situation? Bad. I’d offer to help in other ways, but beggars want to be choosers and negotiate their charity.”

He’s left wondering if it’s cruel of him to refuse Chris and Alice help after they went around telling people about how rich he is.

What do you think; should he forgive them and pitch in since they’re in need and stand to lose everything?
