It was only a couple of months ago that this 35-year-old woman found out about her 34-year-old husband’s wedding day secret.

She dated her husband for 12 years, married him 9 years ago, and has always thought their years together were nothing but blissful.

Her wedding day was so meaningful to her, but her husband apparently got cold feet, and her father-in-law spilled the details after having a little too much to drink one night.

According to her father-in-law, on the morning of her wedding, her husband had fled the scene, and his friends were his accomplices.

“My FIL got wind of this and dragged him back and told him to either marry me or tell me he didn’t want to, but not to leave me at the altar,” she explained.

“He chose to get married. I had no idea about this. My wedding was a very special day. I felt beautiful and extremely happy. I knew my husband was a bit tipsy, but he had reassured me it was just nerves.”

“I felt completely numb. I talked with other members of the family and with my husband. He admitted that he fled because he was afraid of the future and what-ifs. He didn’t want to marry me, but he didn’t want to embarrass me either.”

She didn’t feel angry after the numbness wore off. Instead, that was replaced with humiliation and sadness.

She’s astounded that so many people in their lives knew about her husband’s secret, and they were happy to keep it for him.

It pains her to think about how all of these people have interacted with her, knowing that her husband didn’t want to marry her.

It makes her feel even more terrible to know that her husband is clearly capable of keeping a secret for years on end, so she’s wondering what else he could be hiding from her.

She’s convinced her husband would have run away and stuck with his plan to leave her at the altar if her father-in-law hadn’t intervened.

Her husband never married her out of love; he married her out of pity.

“The wedding was one of the few times I felt beautiful,” she said. “I’m much plainer than his exes, but love made me glow. But now I just see a naive woman.”

In her house, she had a framed photo of just her posing right before the ceremony. After walking past it every single day and thinking about how her marriage was built in a lie, she tossed it in the trash.

She couldn’t stand to think of how proud she was of the photo and how all the people who knew about the secret walked past it in her home.

She also could not go into her closet without catching sight of her wedding dress sitting there sealed in the bag, so she donated it.

She didn’t want the daily reminders. She wishes for another bride to feel gorgeous in her wedding dress, and that’s the bright spot amid a sea of clouds.

“My husband saw that the framed picture was missing,” she continued. “I admitted I threw it out and donated the wedding dress.”

“He completely shut down. How do I reiterate to him I don’t want any reminders of the wedding? I hope some bride out there will give the dress a new happiness.”
