An engagement ring is one of the biggest symbols of commitment there is, but it definitely becomes meaningless if your partner whips one out as you confront them for cheating on you.
Ilana Dunn (@ilana.dunn on TikTok) has a podcast called Seeing Other People, where she recently had a woman named Annie come on to talk about her absurd cheating story.
Annie posted something for work on Instagram and went to check on the comments one day, where she noticed someone had alerted her to check her DMs from a specific girl, as she had something to say about her boyfriend.
Wondering what on earth it could be about, Annie did open up her messages, and this girl revealed to her that her boyfriend had cheated on her while she was out of town one weekend.
“Nothing really made sense, ’cause I had been talking to him the entire weekend that I was gone, and then he was on his way to my apartment when I got this message,” Annie explained to Ilana.
“So I texted him, and I was like, ‘Is there anything you have to tell me about last Friday?’ And all of a sudden, just a flurry of texts of being like, ‘Put your phone down if our relationship has any chance of survival.'”
Annie’s boyfriend begged her to hear his side of the story as he made his way to her place, but she knew deep down that the girl who had sent her a message wasn’t lying about what had gone down with her boyfriend.
By the time Annie’s boyfriend had arrived at her apartment, she had already gathered up all of the personal belongings he kept there and made a whole pile by her front door.
Annie let her boyfriend in and demanded that he tell her what happened, starting at the very beginning. While Annie’s boyfriend had tried to lie on the ride over, at least he was finally honest with her when she confronted him face-to-face.
“We finished the conversation, he reaches into his bag, and he puts an engagement ring box on the table, and he was like, ‘I need you to know how committed I am to you,'” Af nnie continued.
Annie was not impressed, and she promptly kicked him out of her apartment, then made him her ex-boyfriend.
Annie said that day was like something out of a movie, because that was the level of insanity her ex acted with after cheating and whipping out an engagement ring, hoping to be forgiven.
In the comments section, plenty of people had their own stories about their cheating partners to share.
“Mine proposed to me while cheating. Found out 8 years and 2 kids later,” one person commented.
“Yup, how I found out my [husband] has been living a double life for 2.5 years,” another person added.
“Mine [was cheating] for 3 months, but I was pregnant. Why are men the way they are?” someone else wondered.
