In response, Poveteva said that “another woman posed” for the painting and that the similarities are a “coincidence.” Additionally, Poveteva offered to send the exact reference photos used for her work.
We’ll let you be the judge on whether or not the model pictured in the photos sent by Poveteva looks like her painting. Yue also alleges that the model photos have “since been proven to be photoshopped.”
After making no progress with Poveteva herself, Yue felt desperate and reached out to Poveteva’s art school.
“The art school in charge of her was super dismissive of this whole situation,” Yue said.
“This painting belongs to the artist, and the exhibition ended in October 2021. In addition, the artist provided promised evidence and sent photos of the model with whom she wrote the artwork. What you look like is an accident. Everything necessary has been done on our part to clarify the situation,” the school said in a statement to Yue.
Since then, the nude painting bearing stark similarities to Yue has been sold for twenty thousand dollars. She and Poveteva have continued to argue over the painting’s true origin photo, and now, Yue has taken to TikTok to share her story with the world.
“I was eighteen in that photo, and to see my eighteen-year-old self being painted naked and paraded around like that without my consent shattered me,” Yue said.
Nonetheless, she thanked the TikTok community for sharing her story and showing their support.
“Thank you so much for sticking around, and please share my story. Hopefully, I will find a solution soon,” Yue said.
