The researchers found that the general presence of apathy prior to Covid-19 infection was only seventeen percent. Then, following the virus, apathy increased to a whopping sixty-two percent.
These results have pushed the study authors to advocate for the holistic medical care of post-Covid-19 patients– particularly psychological care.
Nonetheless, the team still has many questions they intend to answer with further research.
“How these changes are reflected at the brain level, how long they last, who is more likely to suffer from these symptoms for a long time, and what the individual characteristics that predict recovery are,” Calabria began.
“We will answer these questions in the long term because this area is something new and unknown,” he continued.
