This woman’s friend is getting married this year and asked her to be the matron of honor. In addition to that position, though, her friend also has a maid of honor.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, her friend mentioned how they wanted a bridal shower. So, she took the lead, began to research their options, and found a great venue.

There, the bridal shower would have cost just five hundred dollars for an afternoon tea-style shower. The price included the venue space, food, drinks, and desserts– which was a great deal.

And according to her, the bride and maid of honor both really liked the idea. So, she inquired about the venue and planned for her and the maid of honor to split the cost of the shower.

Well, as of last week, that plan has apparently been thrown out the window.

First, she got a text from the maid of honor and learned that they had been planning a separate bridal shower option without her.

In fact, the bride decided that they wanted the shower to be at a completely different location– without even running it by her first. Plus, the bride was requesting that she still pay for it.

“Then, the maid of honor let me know that the venue is eight hundred dollars– not including food, drinks, decor, or anything else and that we need to find and pay for those things, too,” she recalled.

But, she actually works in the wedding industry and knows that by booking a venue without the catering and other costs covered, the shower is going to be super expensive. And right now, she simply cannot swing such a huge expense.

In turn, she mentioned how bridal showers are traditionally thrown by the mother of the bride and asked if perhaps the bride’s mother would be able to pitch in.

But, the maid of honor shut down that idea, too– since apparently, the bride’s parents were already chipping in a lot of money for the wedding.

“So, I replied to the maid of honor, saying that although it is more than I had anticipated spending, I was happy to pay for a portion of the venue,” she explained.

“But, I said I needed to know their plans for food, drinks, and rentals since they planned this without my input, and I don’t think I will be able to contribute more than what the venue costs.”

Well, it appears that the maid of honor relayed what she had said to the bride– because afterward, she received an onslaught of nasty texts.

Apparently, the bride called her selfish, told her to “stop the drama,” and said that she needed to realize that the wedding was about the bride and not her.

On top of that, the bride then accused her of bragging about her purchases on social media and basically tried to insinuate that she just did not want to cough up cash for the wedding.

And honestly, she was completely confused. She claims to have absolutely no idea what the bride was talking about in terms of social media.

Additionally, she is outraged that the bride would try to make it seem like she hasn’t spent a ton of money on the wedding already.

“I know that when you agree to be a bridal party member, there are financial commitments. And I have happily paid for part of bride’s bachelorette party, engagement gift, my bridesmaid gown, hair and makeup for the wedding day, and booked my travel to her out-of-town wedding,” she vented.

So, it’s really just this bridal shower that seems totally out of line for her. Regardless, though, the bride did not want to hear her input.

Instead, the bride actually told her not to speak to her. And she is not sure if that means just for the time being or if she should assume she is kicked out of the bridal party.

Either way, though, she has now been left wondering if refusing to pay extra for the bridal shower makes her a jerk or not.

Do you think she should have been consulted about the venue change if she is still expected to pay for it? If you were in her shoes, would you have done the same thing?
