Her Friend Is $15,000 In Credit Card Debt For Ordering Takeout To Be Delivered Several Times A Day, And She Really Upset Her By Pointing Out That She’s Destroying Her Life With Her Expensive Habit

This 26-year-old girl was spending time with her 27-year-old friend Sarah yesterday at her apartment.
At one point, they started chatting about what they should do for dinner, and Sarah mentioned that she wanted fast food.
The place Sarah wanted to go to is literally around the block from her apartment, so she said to Sarah they could hop in the car and go to the drive-thru.
Sarah declined, pointing out that she would prefer to order it as takeout and simply have it delivered.
She reminded Sarah that it would literally be twice the price and take twice as long to get there if she did that instead of going through the drive-thru.
Sarah waved her away and proceeded to place their order for delivery. When the payment method screen popped up, she realized Sarah had a ton of different credit cards saved in the app.
She made a comment about it, and Sarah stated she used them all to order her food for delivery. From there, their conversation turned toward credit cards and debt.
“She told me that she has about $15,000 in credit card debt across several cards,” she explained.
“I was surprised by this because she’s actually from a pretty well-off family. Her dad is a lawyer, she grew up in a beach house, her first car was an Audi, and her parents pay her rent and also give her an allowance.”

She then questioned Sarah about how she was even in this kind of debt, and she responded that it’s because she hates cooking and just orders takeout for delivery constantly.
Sarah has been spending so much money on food that she no longer has an allowance, let alone any money to her name. She kept pressing Sarah for more information, and Sarah claimed her OCD makes it impossible to cook since the kitchen just gives her anxiety due to how dirty it is.
She then wanted to know why Sarah couldn’t just drive to get her takeout, and she stated that driving gives her anxiety and she doesn’t want to get in an accident.
Sarah has been staying at home with increasing frequency, and she never really comes out unless someone gives her a ride. She’s concerned about this and has spoken to Sarah about going to therapy to get help with her OCD, but Sarah missed so many of her sessions that she was dropped as a patient.
“I was so stunned to learn that she was spending like $80 a day on food delivery and just charging it to credit cards that I told her I was worried she was ruining her life with that kind of debt,” she said.
“She got really angry and told me I was discriminating against her for her disability and that I don’t get that she can’t cook for herself or drive herself. I told her that those are serious issues that she needs to get help for so she can have some quality of life and that racking up credit card debt instead is only going to financially cripple her.”
“I suggested a few other solutions, like me or her boyfriend helping her by meal-prepping for her until she can get back into therapy, but she stuck to her guns, saying that she needs to order food because of her disability and that the debt is no big deal. She says she has no intention of paying it off because of “how the government is these days.”
She’s left wondering if it was rude of her to tell Sarah that she’s ruining her life by ordering so much food to be delivered every day and wasting a crazy amount of money on that.
