His Girlfriend Wants Him To Fire His Family Maid, And She Even Yelled At Her Recently

Some people tend to get uncomfortable when talking about having a maid or housekeeper. While many families have the privilege of being able to hire one, other families don’t see them as necessary.
One man is unsure what to do after his girlfriend told him he should fire his family maid after she started working at their apartment.
He’s 25 and has been with his 23-year-old girlfriend, Amy, for three years. They share an apartment together, and he’s very in love with her.
However, he and Amy have been arguing over something quite personal lately.
He grew up in a wealthy family, and since he was seven, his parents have been relying on their 57-year-old maid, Maria, to do their housework.
Over the years, Maria became a very close family friend of theirs. But when his parents recently decided to retire and start vacationing, Maria didn’t have as much work to do for them.
So, his parents came up with the idea to have Maria regularly clean his apartment, and they said they’d pay her fees until he finished the residency program he’s in.
“I gladly approved because I love Maria, and usually I am very tired after work, so it is nice to have someone to take care of the home,” he explained.
“Maria was also happy to keep working for us.”

Unfortunately, Amy isn’t very happy about having Maria around. Amy grew up in a more modest family and doesn’t think housekeepers are necessary.
Ever since Maria started working in their apartment, Amy says she doesn’t want her to tidy her things or do her laundry.
Recently, he’s started to think Amy doesn’t even like Maria, despite the fact that Maria is trying her best.
Things came to a head the other day when Maria showed up at their apartment to clean their bathroom. She thought Amy would be at work the other day, but she wasn’t. She was at the apartment.
Amy was showering when Maria arrived, and Maria accidentally walked in on her, which scared her and made her mad.
“Amy got angry at Maria and yelled at her,” he recalled.
“Maria called me to explain the incident. She told me she apologized and tried to say she thought Amy was at work [and] that she rang the bell before entering with her key. When I came home, Amy was still angry, and she says Maria is sneaky and creepy and that I should fire her and we should just split chores.”
He tried to calm Amy down and told her she might be overreacting, which made her even angrier. He absolutely despises the idea of firing Maria because he trusts her and sees her as family.
Plus, because he and Amy have very busy work schedules, having someone to do their household chores for them is really nice.
Firing Maria would also upset his parents, which he wants to avoid.
He tried to explain all of this to Amy, who was still fuming. She told him he was lazy and egotistical and accused him of choosing Maria over her.
“She is now giving me the cold shoulder,” he added.
“I feel bad about this [and] I talked about it with my friends. Some side with me, but a few also say that I am in the wrong. I’m a bit torn.”
Should he consider firing Maria, or is Amy being overdramatic?
