Clara was also a writer and had two books published in the early 1900s. She served as the vice chairman on the executive board of the Texas Centennial Exposition and donated large sums of money to the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs.
When she passed away in 1945 at the age of 64, she was buried in the Alamo chapel. Today, she is considered the “Savior of the Alamo.”
