Even if you are sure that your parents will be supportive of you and your partner’s decision to elope, it’s still important to be mindful of any feelings that might come up for them as you explain what made you two come to this decision.
Many parents dream about their children getting married one day, and all the aspects that come with a more traditional wedding ceremony and reception. The reality that this won’t happen may be a lot for them to take in at first, but ideally, they will respect your choice.
Ensure them that this doesn’t mean you were trying to exclude them from anything and that you just wanted the moment to be between you and your partner in a special and intimate way.
