So, she simply smiled and reassured her mother-in-law that she’d eat as much as possible, and if she didn’t finish anything, she’d take it home.
“I easily finished the steak and was waiting for my dessert when my mother-in-law flipped,” she recalled.
“She said I am attention seeking and was putting on a show. She also said I [had] made my father-in-law and brother-in-law feel uneasy and that a woman shouldn’t eat that much, [because] it is unhealthy and something is wrong with me.”
After having an outburst, her mother-in-law insisted that she and her husband paid the entire bill since she wasn’t planning on having to cover “such a big expenditure.”
She thought that was ridiculous, especially because her steak wasn’t even the most expensive item on the menu. Her in-laws were the ones who ordered the priciest things.
“I said we are absolutely not covering the entire bill since it was meant to be split equally, and [I] reminded her of the dishes she ordered, [which] were significantly more expensive compared to my steak,” she explained.
Then, her in-laws accused her of ruining a family dinner. While Nate is on her side, she’s still feeling attacked by his family. Ever since that dinner, his family has been making passive-aggressive social media posts about it and have sent her health articles about excessive eating.
Was she wrong to refuse to pay the bill that night, or were her in-laws being cruel?
