As Bouts Of Poor Air Quality Become Increasingly Common Due To Climate Change, Here’s How To Keep All Kinds Of Household Pets Protected

Dr. Lisa Lippman (@dr.lisalippman), a veterinarian and TikTok creator warns pet owners what they should be looking out for while caring for their pets in poor air quality.

“If any of your animals are coughing or gagging, having trouble breathing, having excessive eye-watering, swelling around the eyes or mouth, nasal discharge, disorientation, or reduced appetite, make sure to call or see your vet as soon as possible,” says Lisa.

Lisa also states that pets who are seniors, puppies or kittens, have respiratory issues, heart diseases, or flat faces, are especially vulnerable to smoke. So if any of your pets check those boxes, be sure to pay extra close attention to them when the air quality is bad.

Dealing with these crises is very scary, but being a little more aware of the best ways to protect yourself and your animals can help bring you more peace of mind.
Stay safe out there!

Here’s everything you need to know about protecting your pets from this terrible air quality we’re experiencing. Animals with heart or respiratory disease, seniors, puppies, kittens and flat faced breeds are especially at risk from smoke. The most ideal thing to do is keep indoors as much as possible, and keep your windows shut, birds are particular susceptible. For dogs let them outside only for really brief bathroom breaks Keep air conditioner on if possible to help filter the air. If any of your animals are: Coughing or gagging Having trouble breathing Have excessive eye watering or swelling around the eyes or mouth Nasal discharge Disorientation or Reduced appetite See or call your vet Keep your pets safe, hopefully this will all be over soon?? #airquality #pethealth #peathealthtips
