When you were a teenager or even in the last few months, did you ever try a fad diet?

Unfortunately, over the last few decades, fad diets with intense rules and restrictions have become even more accessible to young people.

It hasn’t been until the last few years that dieticians and other experts have begun warning people, especially teenagers and younger, on social media that crazy strict diets are not good for your health and won’t get you the results you want.

One woman recently went viral on TikTok after sharing the story of when she attempted to get through the “Beyoncé Diet” during her college finals. It serves as the perfect warning never to try fad diets again.

Karmell (@collectivelykg) is a lifestyle content creator whose “Beyonce Diet” story shook TikTok viewers and collected over 748,000 likes.

In Karmell’s video, she explains that in the early 2000s, she decided to try what was essentially the “Master Cleanse” diet, which had been renamed the “Beyoncé Diet” during finals week in her senior year of college.

“You don’t eat anything,” says Karmell.

“All you do is drink this concoction of lemon water, cayenne pepper, and a little maple syrup for calories. That’s what you drink all day. At night, when you get in bed, you drink two cups of laxative tea when you’re flat. In the morning, when you get up, before you start your day, you’re supposed to drink a quart of sea salt water before you start moving around.”

On the day of Karmell’s math final, she felt prepared and ready to nail her exam. However, she was in the full swing of her diet that day and drank her sea salt water that morning. She entered class, and her math professor handed out the test, letting everyone know it was a timed final.

“I’m taking the test, I’m minding my business and all of a sudden, I feel it,” says Karmell.

“I feel the bubble guts. I feel the ‘rumbling in tumbly.’ I feel the thunder down under.”

Karmell then informs her professor that she had to go to the bathroom, and her professor was hesitant, as the exam was timed. However, she was insistent and got excused to run to the closest bathroom, which was right next to the classroom.

Although Karmell does not like to use public restrooms and tries to limit her activities in them, there was no stopping what was about to escape from her body.

Tragically, Karmell ended up having an accident all over the bathroom.

“I died in that moment,” recalls Karmell.

While she managed to remove her clothes, Karmell’s “accident” got everywhere. It was a mess she could hardly clean on her own. She got dressed and did what she could to clean up, but she knew she had to tell someone about what happened.

Karmell walked back into her classroom and told her professor she had a “moment” in the bathroom, which required more cleaning.

Karmell’s professor told her she cared for her elderly parents, so she knew how to handle those kinds of messes. The professor told Karmell to get back to her exam while she cleaned the bathroom.

Karmell freaked out at the thought of her professor seeing the bathroom, as she was scared she’d never look at her the same way.

Yet, her professor checked the bathroom anyway and stood there in shock when she opened the door.

After returning to the classroom, her professor said she would tape an “out of order” sign on the bathroom door and contact a janitor. She then told Karmell to go home and that she’d be allowed to take the make-up exam.

Then, Karmell questioned her professor, telling her she thought you had to be sick with a doctor’s note to take a make-up exam.

“You are sick,” responded Karmell’s professor.

“You are ill. Something is going on with you, and you need to go home.”

Karmell did what she was told, grabbed her bag, and went home.

“I lost 12 pounds and most of my dignity that day,” she says at the end of her video.

So, if you ever think you should try some kind of “cleanse” diet, think of what Karmell went through with her professor. Would you ever want to have to be in that position? I would assume not.
