If, after getting married to your spouse, you figured out that they had been lying to you about how wealthy they really are, how would you feel?
This woman’s husband actually lied to her face back when they were dating, and even engaged, about his net worth and how much he was capable of earning.
He would not show her his pay stubs and claimed to make the same money as her. It turns out her husband is really rich and worth several million dollars.
However, he still forced her to split their expenses evenly, despite her not being on the same level as him financially. After they got married, she saw how much he made, as her husband wanted to file their taxes together and then get a tax cut from her 1099 business.
“I have a master’s and specialize in a healthcare-related field with young children ages 0-5. This is my passion. Early intervention is my jam. My clients have told me I’m like the real-life Miss Rachel with my attitude,” she explained.
“I love my career, but I really wanted to use all my knowledge and expertise with our child. My husband has been getting stocks paid out from his start-up company yearly in addition to his salary, and it is MORE than my yearly salary.”
“So I said I want to stay at home with our child because we can afford it. Wrong move. This has been the worst time of my life. My husband has abused me in every way possible.”
Her husband has controlled the amount of money she’s allowed to spend, what she buys at the store, how she organizes days with their child, and even her outfits.
Her husband has humiliated and insulted her. He gives her the silent treatment for days in a row or threatens to divorce her. He even said to her she’s not allowed to be a stay-at-home mom anymore, as she’s taking advantage of him and his own mom worked.
She did manage to secure a new full-time job, and in three weeks, she’s going back to work. She also managed to find a daycare for her child, because her husband thought a nanny would impact their kid’s social skills.
“Last night, my husband tells me his company is ‘going public,’ and he’s set to be paid out an ungodly amount of money. He won’t even need to work! So now he can be a stay-at-home dad but still send our child to daycare,” she continued.
“I am at a loss. I want to divorce him, but wouldn’t they give him majority custody since he now doesn’t need to work and could lie about having our child? I am so defeated. He crushed all my dreams.”
I wonder if he made her sign a prenup, but I’m guessing not, if she had no idea how much he was worth or what he made until after they tied the knot.
Anyway, she really needs to call a lawyer to help her navigate this one, because I’m not seeing how she can stay married to him, but getting her own job and her own money is the best first step out of here.
