She Was Fired From The Boutique She Loved Working At For Not Talking To Customers Enough

If you’ve ever been to a small retail store or boutique, you may have noticed that the salespeople are extra friendly and talk to you a lot as you shop around.
That’s partially because they’re expected to interact with their customers to create a friendly environment and increase their chances of making a sale.
One young woman recently went viral on TikTok after explaining that the boutique she loved working at fired her for not interacting with customers enough, even though she loved interacting with them.
Natalie (@natalieuwelling) is a young woman who used to work at a clothing boutique. She worked there for about a month and loved it, as she formed great relationships with her coworkers and looked forward to when customers would come in.
However, in late January, she was called into a meeting with the store’s management team and received some unexpected news.
Natalie’s bosses told her she wasn’t interacting with their customers enough while in the store. They informed her that they had been watching her on their security cameras and didn’t think she was talking to the customers enough.
At first, Natalie thought this was only a critique and was ready to start talking to customers more, even though she already felt she was interacting with them enough.
Then, without warning, her bosses told her they should “part ways.” Natalie was then fired.
Natalie was shocked, as she thought that was the kind of issue her bosses should have brought up earlier as a warning before resorting straight to firing her.
“I loved the job; I loved all the girls that I met,” says a teary-eyed Natalie in her TikTok video.

“I really thought I was going to be here for a while. It kind of sucks. They basically said we should part ways, and I was like, ‘I wish I would have known this a few shifts ago because I feel like that’s an easy fix.’ I feel like I’m a great candidate for the job.”
Natalie explains that her bosses’ reasoning for her being fired didn’t make much sense to her, especially because she loved it when she’d be working slower days at the store and customers would come in.
Then, one of her bosses said that not everyone is a ‘people person,’ which angered Natalie because she does consider herself a people person.
“I used to be socially awkward, but now I’ve never felt more confident in myself and talking to people,” explains Natalie.
“I know for a fact I’m good at making connections. If you know me, you know that [their] reasoning just doesn’t make sense.”
As the conversation continued, Natalie started to suspect that something else was going on with her bosses, and they were looking for any reason to justify firing her.
However, none of it seemed fair, as she had only been working there for a month and wasn’t allowed to take their critiques and improve.
“I wasn’t going to sit there and argue,” says Natalie. “That’s not who I am. I was very calm because, obviously, they had made their decision already.
Why would I wanna stay somewhere they don’t feel as confident in me as I’ve been in myself?”
Natalie’s TikTok video received over 720,000 likes and reached over six million views as fellow TikTok users sympathized with her and agreed her firing was not right.
Many pointed out that customers don’t even like to be bothered while shopping in boutiques and that there must have been something deeper going on behind the scenes.
“It sounds like they aren’t being fully honest,” commented one TikTok user.
“I’m so sorry that happened to you. It isn’t a reflection on you!”
Have you ever been let go from a job for reasons you felt were unjustified?
We wish Natalie the best of luck as she moves on to bigger and better things!
