Researchers In Peru Recently Discovered A Series Of Ancient Rock Art That May Have Been Carved By People Who Were Hallucinating After Consuming Plants With Mind-Altering Qualities

In addition, the artists of the rock artwork may have created it while under the influence of hallucinogenic plants.

The engravings are similar to the ones that were made by the Tukano, an ancient group that resided in what is now Colombia.

Previous studies have indicated that the Tukano carved the petroglyphs during ritual ceremonies when they drank ayahuasca, a brew made from psychoactive vines.

Since the engravings at Toro Muerto resembled those created by the Tukano, it is likely that the individuals at Toro Muerto were also using hallucinogenic plants.
