One novel of theirs called The Pepsi-Cola Addict made it to print. It was about a teenager who was seduced by his high school teacher. After that, the twins grew tired of writing about life. They wanted to experience life for themselves.
So, they started abusing alcohol and substances and committing crimes. In 1981, they were arrested for arson and placed in a maximum-security mental health facility, Broadmoor Hospital.
Life at the hospital was miserable for the twins. They stayed there for nearly 12 years. The doctors treated them with high doses of antipsychotic medicines. Their only source of comfort was writing in their diaries.
A journalist who read their diaries discovered that June felt possessed by her sister, while Jennifer thought of them as “fatal enemies.” Even though they had a close bond, it seemed that they deeply disliked and feared one another.
In March 1993, they were transferred to a new facility, but when they arrived, Jennifer was dead at the age of 29. The cause of her death was inflammation of the heart, but it was unclear what brought it on so suddenly. After Jennifer’s death, June started speaking to everyone freely. She was released from the hospital and lived out her life normally, no longer held back by her twin.
