Some childhood memories are of sleepovers, birthday parties, and summer vacations. But for TikToker @sunshinewt, one of her earliest memories involves something far darker.

When she was a child, she and her big sister caught their dad trying to kill their mom. They were around four or five years old at the time. Her dad was an alcoholic and would beat everyone in the family except for her.

One night, she and her sister woke up to the sound of screaming. Both girls perked up immediately and headed over to their parents’ room to see what was going on.

They saw their mom lying down with their dad on top of her, pointing an axe directly at her neck. Their mom was holding back his wrist with all her might.

“My sister ran to the phone after she saw that, and I was stuck in the hallway just looking,” she recalled. “Everything was in such slow motion for me. Like, I was just watching what was going on, and my dad kept yelling at me, telling me to go to sleep and close the door.”

Then, her sister yelled for her to go outside and get help. So, she knocked on a neighbor’s door while her sister was on the phone with the police.

Her sister didn’t really know what to say, so their neighbor grabbed the phone and talked to the cops.

Five to 10 minutes later, the police showed up. She and her sister stayed outside because the cops wouldn’t let them go back inside. They restrained her dad, and she watched him being escorted out wearing handcuffs.

“One thing about my dad, he was a hunter,” she said.

“So, he had axes, he had bows and arrows, he had shotguns, he had swords. Anything you name it, he had it. It was in the bed of his truck, so they confiscated all of his freaking weapons.”

He never stayed in jail for too long. After a few days or a few weeks, her grandparents would bail him out. She remembers waking up the next morning to a bunch of neighbors asking her what was wrong. The cherry on top of the whole situation was that she got stung by a bee.
