When TikToker Teale (@tealekelleyy) was 16 years old, she got pregnant and was subsequently disowned by her family. She decided to keep the baby, even though her family told her she was not allowed to.
Her grandmother told her that she would not be welcome at family functions, and she would never speak to her again if she kept the baby. Her daughter is now 12 years old.
Luckily, her daughter’s father was supportive, and his parents opened up their home to Teale. She ended up graduating from high school early and became the first person in her family to go to college. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
One day, her mom did a genealogy test, and the results showed a random match with a person who was her sister. Her mom had five other siblings.
This new sister was about a year older than her mom’s oldest sibling. They asked Teale’s grandmother about the match, but she denied everything and acted like she didn’t know what was going on.
Finally, she admitted to it and explained that she gave up her baby for adoption when she was 16 years old. She had no idea who the father was.
Then, she got married to Teale’s grandfather, and she became pregnant with her uncle. Everyone was shocked.
“My grandma still wouldn’t talk to me after that,” said Teale. “I was still the devil in her eyes, even though she did the same exact thing, except she gave the baby up for adoption.”
That opened up a whole can of worms, and more family secrets were spilled. Her grandma was not the only one who had a secret child when she was a teenager. Her grandpa did, too!

The pattern went back even farther. Teale’s great-grandmother was born in Ireland in 1907. She immigrated to the United States in the 1920s. She lived to be 100 years old. On her deathbed, she kept saying the name Mary, but no one knew who Mary was.
Apparently, Teale’s great-grandmother had a baby when she was a teenager. She was sent to America while her parents kept the baby and raised it as their own. They named the baby Mary.
Another important detail is that Teale and her siblings all have different fathers. She has two older brothers. Yet, her family was judging her so harshly.
Teale’s mom eventually came around, but her grandma never spoke to her again. Her mom died about four years ago, and her grandmother died two years ago. She did not attend her grandmother’s funeral.
In the comments section, several TikTok users shared their own family scandals involving secret kids.
“I got pregnant at 16, and the same thing happened!!! Our secret was that my oldest brother, who was an adult at that time, was only my half-brother. Mom had an oopsies like I did and never told us that my dad wasn’t his biological dad. To this day, my brother still doesn’t know who his biological dad is, and she refuses to tell him. He looks a lot like my cousin, though,” wrote one user.
“I found out my half-sister was my full-blooded sister after doing Ancestry,” stated another.
“Just found out I have a half-sister from my dad on Ancestry, and now, my parents are disowning me because I want a relationship,” commented a third.
