When TikToker Christin (@chaotically_chris) was 12 years old, her father became addicted to drugs and left the family. From that point on, he was largely absent from her life.

When she turned 18, the police contacted her to tell her that her father had been found dead outside a hospital. His cause of death was unknown. Since she was the next of kin, she needed to sign some papers to authorize his cremation.

However, they would not let her identify his body or see any other proof that it was him. They wouldn’t give her any other information aside from the fact that he was dead. They claimed that they were trying to protect her. So, her father got cremated and mailed to Christin.

Life moved on, and a few years later, her mother also passed away. Eventually, Christin got married. She was married on the same day that she believes her parents got married.

The coincidence prompted her to look into her family history. She did some research online and found her parents’ wedding date, which was the same as hers.

She also came across phone numbers and addresses linked to her father, who supposedly died in 2008. But the addresses were from 2014, 2017, and as recently as May 2025.

His last known address was in Virginia. His reported death occurred in Georgia. Christin currently lives in Arkansas.

Now, she’s wondering whose remains are in her possession if her father may not have died when authorities said he did. She has not gotten any closer to finding answers.

According to the caption of her video, she doesn’t think the situation is just a simple mix-up because there were only three people in the United States with the same name as him.

Plus, the records were associated with his date of birth. She’s unsure if she should keep digging.

In the comments section, several TikTok users urged her to keep investigating by going directly to law enforcement and following the paper trail herself. Others offered grounded explanations, such as outdated databases or identity misuse.

“I would go to the police station and ask for the reports, and I would show up to see if it is your dad,” suggested one user.

“I’d be going straight to the last known address and seeing if my dad is alive!!” exclaimed another.

“Sometimes, those addresses appear to be current and may even say current, but are inaccurate or not updated. My ex-husband is 100% deceased, but if I Google his name, it gives his last address but says it’s current,” commented a third.

“In today’s world, someone was maybe using his information. Don’t get too overwhelmed just yet. Did you receive a death certificate? Run his social to see if anyone has been contributing to it,” wrote someone else.

This is a whole lot to unpack and I’m like wtf is happening!!!!! My fathers name wasn’t a common name so it’s not just a mistake. There was only 3 people in the US with his name and it had HIS date of birth attached to it. Should I keep digging? What the hell do I do?! Who the hell is in this box?! #dad #fyp #putafingerdown #help #whosinthebox
