The other day, something really weird happened to TikToker Kailyn (@kailverse), and now, she thinks it might be a glitch in the matrix.
So, it was nighttime, and she was sitting in the living room watching TV. She then paused her show and set the remote control on the middle cushion of the couch to get up and grab a drink.
But when she returned, the TV remote was gone. She looked around and couldn’t find it, so she gave up watching TV and went to bed.
The next morning, she asked her mom if she had found the remote control for the TV in the living room. Her mom ended up searching the living room with her.
“We took off every single cushion, every pillow,” said Kailyn. “We have two blankets on the couch. We took those off and shook them out. The remote’s not there. It’s not in the couch. We moved the couch; it’s not behind it. It’s not under it…like, it’s gone.”
Kailyn even looked in her room, but it wasn’t there. Later that night, her mom wanted to watch TV in the living room, but the remote was still missing. She checked the couch cushions one more time, but found nothing.
So, her mom asked Kailyn for the remote that goes to the TV in her bedroom. It had slightly different buttons than the living room remote, but it still worked on both TVs.
About an hour later, Kailyn went to the kitchen to fill up her water bottle. Her mom was falling asleep on the couch in the living room and asked her to pause the TV. So, that’s what Kailyn did before returning to her room.
Another hour later, her mom banged on her door. She barged in with the living room remote in her hand. She had woken up with the remote lying on her chest.

After they both confirmed that they weren’t playing pranks on each other, they both freaked out.
“It’s the fact that there is no logical explanation for how it could have just ended up on top of her,” said Kailyn. “There’s nowhere it could’ve fallen from. I mean, we emptied that couch. We tore it apart. How did it end up on her?”
In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own wacky stories about losing common household items, only for them to mysteriously reappear.
“This exact thing happened to [my daughter and me] years ago while we were watching TV (I lived in a haunted house, by the way). The remote ended up being in my bedroom, standing on its end,” commented one user.
“This happened to [my daughter and me] last year. Then, in the next three months, we ‘found’ the remote three more times, and each of our TVs [is a different brand], so not like we had multiples before, but now we do,” shared another.
“I lost a whole load of laundry for two hours after I had put stuff in the dryer. I went to go get it, and it was gone. I checked the washer. It was not in there. I checked the cupboards and everywhere it would be put away, and it was not there. I ordered some replacement stuff because I needed it for that day, and then two hours later, it’s back in the washing machine, and I’ve got to put it back in the dryer!” wrote a third.
