In the age of social media, you’re not just dating a person. You might be dating their content strategy, too, as TikToker @nongloriafer0 found out on the weirdest date of his life.

A friend he has known for a long time suggested that they go on a date and see if they hit it off. He agreed, and they decided to go to a Korean barbecue place. He got a haircut and a new outfit for their date.

On the day of, he drove over to pick her up. She was still getting ready in the bathroom, so he waited for her in the living room. He was totally shocked and unprepared when she walked out wearing a kimono.

He immediately started laughing, thinking it was some kind of joke, but she was confused and asked him why he was laughing. She also mentioned that this felt like the perfect opportunity to wear the kimono.

He told her that it was extremely weird and a bad idea. They went back and forth for a bit until he finally convinced her to change. She put on a normal outfit, and they headed out to the restaurant.

At the restaurant, they sat down, ate, chatted, and had a good time overall. But then, at one point, she gestured toward her phone and said, “Do you mind?”

He thought she was just being polite and letting him know that she needed to check her phone for a quick second. Instead, she pulled out a little kickstand on her phone, set it up, and went live on TikTok.

He sat there, jaw dropped, not really knowing what was going on. She just sat there, talking to people on TikTok for about 10 minutes.

Then, she suggested that he sit next to her so they could talk while eating. He refused, and when the server approached their table, he asked for the check.

He hadn’t eaten much since they weren’t there for very long. After he paid the bill, he dropped her back off at home. She told him that she had a fun time and they should go out more often.

As he drove away, he couldn’t help but shake his head in bafflement. He hasn’t spoken to her ever since because he doesn’t really know how to handle the situation now. The internet had some thoughts.

“She 100% wanted to wear the kimono because she was planning on going live during dinner and had an aesthetic in mind,” stated one user.

“That’s sad how people are so wrapped up in the virtual world instead of just being present and enjoy a real person in front of you,” commented another.

“It’s crazy that I’ve also had someone surprise me in a kimono on a date for sushi before,” added a third.
