When TikToker Casey (@caseyshail) was 11 years old, she got poison ivy, and her dad forced her to take a bath in bleach to get rid of it. Somehow, he decided that a bath in bleach was the best solution.

He filled up the tub with hot water and poured at least half the bottle of bleach into the water. He told her to get undressed and sit in the tub.

At 11 years old, Casey knew that you weren’t supposed to get bleach on your skin, but she was too scared of her father to say anything. So, she sat in the tub for five to 10 minutes. When she started to feel faint, she got out of the tub.

As she was getting dressed, her sister came in to check on her, per their dad’s orders. She reported back to their dad that Casey was draining the tub.

The next thing Casey knew, he came flying up the stairs and demanded to know why she was out of the tub. She tried to explain that she was about to pass out.

He immediately began filling up the tub again and dumped the rest of the bleach into the water. She stayed there for what felt like forever, but it was probably around 30 minutes to an hour. Finally, her sister said she could get out.

Casey slowly got up and tried not to lose consciousness. She grabbed onto the walls to support herself as she got dressed again. Then, she went to her room to lie down.

“At the time, my sister and I shared a room, and we had a bunk bed,” said Casey. “She had the bottom bunk, and I had the top bunk.”

“I didn’t trust myself to make it to the top bunk because even though I managed to get dressed and stuff, I’m still not fully there.”

So, she resorted to resting on her sister’s bed. When her dad found her, he went off on her for possibly giving her sister poison ivy and called her dramatic. The next day, her stepmom took her to the doctor and told the doctor all about the bleach bath remedy.

The doctor looked at her like she had suddenly grown two heads. The reaction of disbelief confirmed that the bleach bath was not a good idea.

Overall, the experience left Casey with a lasting memory of fear and confusion.

“Turns out it doesn’t help, and I went through that for absolutely nothing, and I still had poison ivy after this happened. It didn’t miraculously clear it up. Don’t give your kids a Clorox bath if they have poison ivy. That’s the moral of the story, I guess. Also, I no longer speak to my dad,” concluded Casey.
