Over a month ago, TikToker Anna’s (@okitsjustmymood) husband left her with no notice. He has also been liquidating their assets in front of her eyes and giving her little breadcrumbs of hope to make her think that this situation can be resolved. But she finally knows there won’t be a happy ending.
Her husband left in the middle of the night, right before Mother’s Day. He got a hotel and has spent more than $7,000 on Airbnbs.
He also spent thousands of dollars on guns, ammunition, and other equipment. He told her that she could stay at the house. She changed the locks and moved her son in with her parents because she felt unsafe there.
The situation was particularly painful because, although her husband is not her son’s biological dad, he had spent the past five years acting as a parent.
He stepped up and became a father figure. Then, everything seemed to change overnight. One day in therapy, he decided that he no longer cared.
Apparently, her husband had been wanting to leave for over a year, so that’s what he finally did.
Throughout their marriage, he was never home because he was always working. He did not communicate with Anna or show up for her emotionally. Anna was juggling more responsibilities than most people realized.
She poured her energy into keeping everything in balance. She was struggling with health issues, working, building her husband’s business behind the scenes, supporting him, running the household, and managing the finances.
“I have a financial tracker, and it literally shows on paper or onscreen that his income is solely dependent on our relationship, and especially after we got married, it nearly tripled, quadrupled, and I did all the operations, the building, the stabilizing,” said Anna.
Every time she tried to ask for help or support, he treated her poorly. She put off her own career, education, dreams, and goals to focus on her husband’s business, which is something that she now regrets.
Like many spouses who support a partner’s career, she believed the sacrifices were being made for a shared future.
Now, she knows that that future never existed. The moral of the story here is, don’t make a man the center of your life. It’s important not to abandon yourself in the process of supporting the people you love. Relationships should add to your life, not become the only life you have.
For Anna, her marriage may be over, but in many ways, she gets to start a new chapter that is entirely her own. It may not be what she expected after 17 years of being with her husband, but it is a chance to meet her own needs for the first time in years.
