A Scooter Accident In Bali Left Her In A Coma With A 1% Chance Of Survival And She Is Making Big Improvements On Her Road To Recovery

It was August 22nd, close to a month after Kaitlyn’s terrible accident, when she was safely flown from Bali to Stanford Hospital Neurocritical Care Unit in California.

Recently, Kaitlyn moved to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center to start her journey to recovery.

“Moving to a new facility is a big change, but a necessary one,” Dena shared in an update on the GoFundMe page for Kaitlyn yesterday.

“Within the first week, Kaitlyn has already made significant improvements. She found her voice and now speaks all day long, although it’s weak and she might have some vocal cord paralysis.”

“She has a lot of memories prior to her accident but there are also a lot of gaps. She struggles with aphasia, so she often has difficulty finding the right words, even when she knows what she is trying to say.”

Kaitlyn is currently in the respiratory rehab unit, and after she completes her rehab there she will move on to a program that’s specific to patients with brain injuries.

“As Kaitlyn says, “I just want to be able to walk out of here.” At the time of diagnosis, she was given a 1% chance to live,” Dena continued.

“We aren’t out of the woods yet and continue to experience many daily struggles, but we make sure to always celebrate the small victories.”

If you would like to donate to Kaitlyn’s GoFundMe to help support her on her journey to recovery, you can do that here.
