After Financially Supporting Her College Roommate, This TikToker Learned That She Had Been Lying About Being “Broke”

If your friend could not afford to eat, wouldn’t you graciously cover their meal? That is what Meghan Good, a TikToker from the UK, often did for her college roommate.
Little did Meghan know that her roommate, who had been parading as “broke” for an entire year, was actually well-off and lived in a “mansion.”
Meghan went viral on TikTok for sharing the story behind her bizarre realization. When she began college, Meghan was only seventeen years old and had to scrape money together just to afford lunch.
“I was living on prayer, manifestation, and vibes,” Meghan said, “Student finance hadn’t come through, and I did not have any of those sweet, sweet loans. My bank account and I used to look at each other like, ‘Are we going to have respiration for lunch today? Are we going to have air? Because there’s no money.'”
Despite being in a terrible financial spot, Meghan’s roommate had claimed to be struggling much more.
“I used to buy her meals sometimes because she literally had no money. She was poorer than me,” Meghan said. Or so she thought.
By the time freshman year finals wrapped up, Meghan’s roommate had asked her to go out to dinner.
The roommate wanted to celebrate the end of the year, and, after some convincing, Meghan agreed to go. She even saved up all week for the outing.

“I had ten pounds. Ten pounds is enough for a chicken meal,” Meghan explained.
When the pair got to the restaurant, though, Meghan felt utterly out of place. She thought they would be going somewhere enjoyable yet affordable. Boy, was she wrong.
“I walk into the restaurant that my friend booked and my heart dropped. I heard classical music and saw people wearing suits and dresses. I sat down and even saw complimentary lemon water,” Meghan recalled.
Mortified, she ran to the bathroom and called her sister– begging for a money transfer.
“That was the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me,” Meghan said.
Still, she held it together and returned to meet her roommate at their dining table. Meghan ordered a standard entree and called it a night.
However, her friend kept ordering multiple dishes that neither of them could supposedly afford.
“I thought she was having a mental breakdown in front of me. I’m thinking, ‘She’s broke, are we doing to dine and dash?'” Meghan said.
Because she was so stressed about paying the check, Meghan could not even enjoy the celebratory dinner.
But, nothing angered her more than when the waiter came over. He asked the pair if they’d like to pay together or split the check. The roommate immediately said they would be paying together.
“I thought she was expecting me to pay, but then, she pulls out her card and pays for both her meal and mine,” Meghan said.
While this may sound like a nice gesture, Meghan was angered beyond belief when she later discovered her friend’s financial truth.
“I found out that her family owns a restaurant and she lives in a mansion. She just pretended to be poor. Who does that, and why did you make me pay for your meals?” Meghan exclaimed.
Their relationship has since been severed for obvious reasons. Now, Meghan wants the TikTok community to know that pretending to be poor is not okay.
“Imagine being so privileged that you think being poor is cute,” Meghan captioned the entire TikTok storytime.
