Have you ever been mid-shift at work, daydreaming about quitting on the spot? For many people, this bold move is unimaginable. Still, sometimes enough is enough.

One Reddit user named Hunterofshadows wanted to hear the thought processes of workers who left their jobs on the spot. They asked the Reddit community to share their “last straw,” and the responses are infuriating.

She Worked At A Daycare

“I worked in daycare at a private school. I showed up to work on time and started my morning routine with the kids as usual. But, I got a random phone call an hour into my day.”

“I got someone to watch over my class and stepped into the restroom to answer. It turned out to be my boss.”

“She asked why I was not at work, and I told her I was. Then, she asked why I was answering my phone. I told her I was expecting a call from my doctor, and she told me just to get back to work.”

“I continued with my day until it was nap time for the kids. Then, my boss pulled me aside and told me I was fired for answering my phone during working hours. She even asked me to finish up my day. Yeah, right.”

“Luckily, the other women I worked with said they would cover my class after I left. My only regret was not being able to say goodbye to my class.”

“Last I heard, my old boss got the tip of her pinky finger chopped off from the giant paper cutter we used for crafts.”

They Were A Barista With A New, Clueless Boss

“I worked at a small neighborhood shop, the kind where I would have a drink ready for a regular before they even got to the counter.”

“The owners wanted to move, so they sold the shop to a completely clueless guy that used his wife’s retirement to fund his ‘dream’ of owning his own business. This man could not tell you the difference between a latte and a mocha if his life depended on it.”

“During a particularly busy morning, I suggested that boss man move his personal belongings from the largest table in our space after watching three large groups enter the shop, see there were no tables available, and leave.”

“Bossman freaked the f*** out on me. He told me I had no idea how to run a coffee business and to never to tell him what to do.”

“This was on the floor, in front of the full house. I said nothing, turned to get my coat, and left. He went out of business very shortly after.”

This Man Almost Fought His Supervisor

“I was working in a tire shop at the time. A guy that I had trained got promoted above me because ‘reasons.’ So, one day I was changing tires, and he started screaming at me– telling me that I was doing this and that the wrong way.”

“I was like, first of all, no. Second, I taught you how to do this, so do not try to tell me how to do it.”

“He grabbed me by the shoulder and spun me around so he could yell in my face. He was nose to nose with me, poking me in the chest and telling me I was a piece of s***.”

“I still had the tire bar in my hand and started seeing red. I had the sense to know that either I walk out of there right then and I was out of a job, or I brained that guy with a tire bar and ended up out of a job AND in jail.”

“I pushed him off of me and dropped the tire bar. I walked up front and handed my manager my tool pouch.”

They Had Just Put In Their Two Weeks Notice

“Both of my managers told all of the associates that I was leaving, where I was going, and how they thought I would suck at my new job. They could not believe that a young person would think a nine-to-five is desirable. They kept trying to make me regret putting in my notice.”

“Three shifts after I put in my notice, I was settling in at the start of my shift. I have a small cat tattoo on my wrist and had the sleeves of my cardigan rolled up to clean some glass.”

“It had never been a problem for me to do that in the entire two years I worked there. My manager said to me, ‘If my cat didn’t have a vet appointment, I’d send you home for breaking dress code.'”

“So, I did the only logical thing. I took my keys off, left immediately, and never went back. She called me, but I deleted the voicemail without listening.”

They Left Their Corporate Position

“I was Director of Database Operations at a large corporation. I had my job for a week when they fired the guy who hired me. Great start. I stuck it out, but the CTO was a guy who obviously did not like me. Nothing I did was good enough.”

“One day, he called me into a spur-of-the-moment meeting. It was a database consultant, the CTO, and me. The CTO started talking about what we needed to do in my department.”

“I was prepared because I had been working on planning from day one, and I started laying out what I thought we needed to do. The CTO then physically turned his back to me and started asking the consultant– who had been in the building for all of fifteen minutes– what he thought we should do.”

“I got up and said, ‘Well, it’s obvious you do not need me in this meeting,’ and I walked out. As I was walking out of the room, the CTO started literally screaming, ‘Don’t you walk away from me! You get back in here right now!’ Yeah, how about no?”

“I went to HR, quit, and told them the reason why. Two days later, HR called me and asked me to come in for a meeting. They said if I were uncomfortable going to the office, they would meet me anywhere. I told them I was fine going into the office.”

“After I went in, they offered me three months severance pay. I think they were afraid I would sue over the way I was treated. I did not, but I took the money and never looked back.”

“That CTO was also out within two months.”
