A 20-year-old woman has a Chinese mom, which makes her half Chinese, though she looks more like her dad.

Not too long ago, she met a 23-year-old guy on a dating app, and when she told him that she is half Chinese, he made a comment to her about how he adores Chinese food.

He then asked if she would like to go out on a dinner date with him, and he told her to let him know what her favorite place to eat is and that’s where they would go on their date.

“There’s a great, authentic Sichuan restaurant in our city so I suggested that,” she explained. “I warned him that it’s quite spicy, I have many American friends that say they love Chinese food but what they really mean is they love Panda Express.”

“Nothing wrong with that, I love American-Chinese food too, I just wanted to make sure.”

Her date insisted that he was a fan of spicy food, and he assured her that he had eaten at the place she had in mind before and didn’t find the dishes that hot.

Her date then joked about being insulted that she had to make sure that he could handle the heat, but looking back on this now after their first date, she’s pretty sure it was not in a joking manner at all.

The day of their planned first date arrived, and she met this guy at the restaurant that she had recommended they eat at.

When their waitress came over to them, she made sure to place her order in Chinese, as she finds that if she orders in English, the dishes end up milder.

The guy that she was on a date with asked her if she could place an order for him too, and he did request his food super spicy, so she turned around and told this to the waitress.

“Food comes out, and it’s spicy,” she said. “A couple of bites in and he starts struggling. I asked how the food is, and he’s still putting up a strong front but he’s barely eating it anymore.”

“The waitress came over and starts speaking to me in Chinese, asking how the food is, the usual small talk, and then said in English to him “too spicy?” and laughed a little.”

She giggled a bit as well and figured their waitress sees this happen all the time. Well, as soon as their waitress left their table, her date accused her of ordering his food super spicy to humiliate him.

He then said that he had eaten there several different times and the food hadn’t been so hot before, so he knew she did something to make it even worse for him.

She did her best to tell him about how if you order in Chinese vs. English, the restaurant will make things spicier, but yet, her date wanted it that way.

She then tasted the food that her date ordered, which was the same level of intensity that her food was, and then he wanted to swap dishes, so she agreed.

Although her date then claimed that her food was milder than what he got, he proceeded to just eat rice until their dinner was over.

“After I got home, he texted me saying how it was rude that I purposely ordered and spoke Chinese to the waitress in front of him (even though he asked me to order?), that I wanted to embarrass him on purpose and that I ruined his meal just so I can laugh at him not being able to handle it,” she continued.

She later let some of her friends know about how their date had gone down, but her friends think that she was in the wrong.

Her friends believe that she should have not ordered super spicy food for him even though that’s what he wanted, since the restaurant they went to tends to only serve that kind of food if you specifically ask for it in Chinese.

Her friends said that there is no way the food her date previously ate there was the same level of spicy, and clearly, he was just attempting to impress her on their date, which backfired.

Do you think she should have ignored what her date said and gotten him a dish that was a normal level of spicy?
