“All that yapping and ain’t said nothing pertaining to scripture,” added a second user.
“I would have yelled, “Hell naw,” and walked off. He was too bold for that move,” wrote a third.
The community’s outraged response has since pushed Funderburke to issue a public apology delivered in a Facebook live stream.
“Though there is context behind the content of the clip, no context will suffice to explain the hurt and anguish caused by my words. I have spoken to those I am accountable for and have received their correction and instruction,” he said.
“I apologize to all who have been hurt, angered, or in any way damaged by my words. The zeal of any presentation must be tempered with love and respect, and that was not displayed.”
Church at the Well, where Funderburke is a pastor, has since disabled comments on the live stream apology. Nonetheless, it appears that public opinions are still mixed according to the post’s “reactions.”
About one hundred and eighty users have “liked” the post, while over five hundred have left “angry” faces. And, shockingly, over seven hundred have left “laughing” faces.
